Atkins was one of the "founding four" of The Whitlock Group in 1991. In the years he was there, The Whitlock Group went from a startup to one of the premier Video and A/V dealerships in the nation. He developed or consulted on projects large and small for broadcast, education, businesses and production, and was the consultant of choice for several architectural firms. 

In 1998, he became a partner at TGS, Inc., a true systems integrator focused on the transition to DTV and HDTV.  TGS was one of the pioneers of that transition and Atkins' projects were often Digital and HDTV firsts. 

Late in 2004, Atkins launched the Summit Manor's Media Division, building on a lifetime of Media projects and Strategic Alliances.
